The KE shunt noise-suppressor plug is a parallel-filter of simple design and low
cost which is very effective in removing a large proportion of common mains
noise problems. It does this is by allowing 50Hz AC mains to pass but at the
same time reflecting distortions (i.e. noise pollution) back to source. The
SNS-plug can be fitted into any free mains outlet socket, either close to the
user`s audio and AV equipment, or close to a known source of noise pollution
(e.g lighting dimmer, fluorescent or halogen lighting and associated transformer,
fridge or pump motor, computer equipment etc.) For maximum effect, some
experimentation with regard to the position of the SNS-plug is recommended.
Used in an audio or AV system, the SNS-Plug gives a lower background noise
floor, with better definition and less harsh high tones. It is especially effective
when used in conjunction with other line conditioners - as well as with the KE
Power Source.
There are two types of filtering:
Serial Filtering
With serial filtering there has been added a coil in serie with the electrical user. The
frequency of the mains will almost completely get through, because the impedance
(alternating current resistance) of the coil here is relatively low. As the frequency rise
(distortion spectra) the impedance of the coil will increase as well and through this it
will become less permeable for distortions.
A less positive part of serial filters is that there always will be a loss by the impedance
of the coil - at 50 Hz - and the resistance of the coil wire. The KE-POWER SOURCE
is a serial filter but by its unique design, the above-mentioned disadvantage is
negligible.
Parallel Filtering
This is based on the principal that the parallel impedance will become lower while
the frequency increases. The parallel filter will be seen by the mains distortions as a
short-circuit, and due to this fact, it will be reflected to the source. The KE-SNS
PLUG is a parallel filter. The advantage of this is a simple construction (low
production costs) and a high flexibility. A disadvantage positive point of parallel
filtering is that it is less efficient than serial filtering.
The KE-SNS PLUG is easily plugable in every free power socket.
Some effective places are:
1) As close as possible near the main switch equipment (the source)
2) Into the multiple socket box (or line conditioner) of the A/V equipment
3) Close near the source of the distortion, e.g. light dimmer, fluorescent lightning,
transformer (e.g. halogen light), refrigerator, computer, heating-installation, etc.
