Schottky/Ultra-Fast Diodes | Burson Audio Op-amps

Burson Audio logo   Burson Audio Single & Dual Op-amps

What Burson Audio have done with their audio grade op-amps is extremely simple. They have recognised that modern manufacturers incorporate op-amps into their circuits to keep the component count down, simplifying the design and above all keep the cost down. Op-amps basically amplify low level audio signals and this is fundamentally the basis of hi-fi. If you upgrade resistors and capacitors then it makes sense to replace a 20p op-amp with something more substantial.

Their op-amps are entirely constructed from audio graded transistors and 1% tolerance resistors. In production the op-amps use pre-burned-in then tested components to provide you with perfectly matched pair op-amps (sold in pairs).

LISTENING
Standard IC op-amp sound like a grand concert would through a key-hole. Burson Audio`s provide fuller texture, refined detail with controlled and punchy bass. In hificollective`s opinion truely amazing.

CAN YOU USE A BURSON?
Easy, just open up your CD player or DAC and locate the analog RCA output (where you plug your interconnection cable). You should see one pair or more of the standard Opamps. Take down the model number and compare to the list below.

SINGLE OP-AMPS: NE5534, LT1122, OPA627, AD811, AD844, etc.

DUAL OP-AMPS: AD712, AD827, C4570, JRC4580, JRC5532, JRC5532D, JRC5534, LF353, LM833N, NE5532, NEC4520, NEC4570, NJM2068D, NJM2114, NJM2214D, NJM4558, NJM4558D, NJM4560, NJM5532, NJM4558P, OP275, OPA2132, OPA2134, OPA2604, RC4558D, RC4558P, TL052, TL072

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR BURSON?
The op-amps are supplied fully assembled with 8 0.8mm diameter 40mm flying leads coming out of the base relating to the DIL-8 package of the op-amp. Orientation is denoted by the half moon on the lower board. Also provided is some sleeving to cover the flying leads.
  • Record the direction of the IC-opamp. (where the half moon chip is pointing)
  • De-solder the existing Op-amps and replace them with the Burson opamp (same direction).
  • Make sure that none of the exposed solder joins are in contact with anything else. You may need to wrap a piece of thin cardboard arounf the device to make sure this is the case.
  • If space is limited it may be necesssary to locate the op-amp in the nearest available space away from the DIL-8 location. Not a problem just use flying leads.
100 hours of burn-in, then enjoy the music!

If you don`t fancy doing the installation yourself our Servicing department will be happy to help. See this page for more info.

Cayin CDT 17A
I have recieved my Op-Amps, and the sound is noe more less than stunning!!I just sat in my chair and smiled through 7 CD`s today, this is one of my best updates ever!
I can discribe the sound like this: Much darker background, extreme dynamic, better placement between vocal and instruments, the vocal is dead center between the speakers, wonderful analog sound! They are just simply the best Op-Amps there is to find! I am stunned!...

ASR Intergraded Amp
I have finally modified one Discrete Op-amp module (/from a dual setup to two singles/), not difficult but still take 1 hour to do the modification.I use this Discrete Op-amp module on my German made ASR Integrated Amplifier, see the diagram.

NAD 521i
Pack just arrived on Friday, I installed Burson clock and in a NAD 521i CD player. The first improvement was using NAD as transport, I own an AUDIOSINTHESYS DAX DAC wich is very sensitive to transport, before installing clock de dac wasn´t able to lock with the nad as transport and some cracks and pops were heard, after installing the clock the dac locked perfect.

Using discrete opamp was a big improvement using NAD as a standalone player, I think this player is not good enough to hear the benefits of Discrete Op-amp. My Audiosynthesis DAX is better than the moded NAD, but this mod made them closer, Discrete Op-amp was better than OPA627.
I´m sending you some pics of the modified nad, Discrete Op-amp Sclock, ELNA audio caps for analog ps, nichicon muse output caps. You can se in the pic the installation points for clock (signal orange and ground orange-white)

I´m also sending you a pic form my system and a pic of my loved Harman Kardon citation II.If you want to know more please let me know...
Best regards.

TEAC Esoteric
Also I am sending you some pictures of a modified TEAC esoteric. They completely transformed this $5000 USD player. Music has much more body, sound is more analytical. Stereo image was much better, my speakers almost disappeared, never heard details were present, mod also included black gate non polarized caps...

Sony SCD777ES
The discrete opamp is really well, mainly because the GAIN is louder. Secondly, the sound quality is very natural. I used a thicker silver plated wire this time, the bass turned out excellent. When I listen to a music piece that involves the violin, it sounds flawless as well; pretty much, the sound that my stereo is producing has no trace of any digital sound quality- it is very musical...

NAD 542 CD player
My knowledge in electronic is minimal although I am listening to music for more than two decades. I changed many systems and recently was informed about Burson by Tony from Holland. I decided to change discrete opamp and the clock. Without help from two kind people Oscar-Mexico and Manfred-Deutschland probably this project would be unsuccessful.
Firstly I changed discrete opamp which was very easy process. I was surprised how good discrete opamps are. Speakers disappeared, sound become analog, especially cymbals. Space opened in all directions as well.
Than I ordered the clock. To understand installation process took me some time however after that it was again very easy. You can notice that in between pin1 U507 and the clock's power supply is placed R22ohm as kindly recommended by Manfred.
The rest as Burson's page advising. Sound, improved again, noticeably cymbals and bass too. The only think I disliked was that space constricted slightly with the clock...
