Guidelines for review writing:
You have probably read quiet a few articles and have a good idea of how they are put together. Here is a few guidelines of how, for example, to format a review of a new kit amplifier. Don`t worry if you don`t get it right we will always knock it into shape.
- Introduction - Brief description about what you are reviewing, how it arrived with you, anything you instantly noticed, basic run through the specifications.
- Quality - Run down of parts or item once out of the box.
- Build - How easy was it, instructions (good/bad), problems encountered, any shortfalls.
- Set-up - how easy was it to get in up and running?
- Set up - how easy was it to get in up and running.
- Listening test - how does it sound.
- Conclusion - overall worth of product.
- Pictures - a picture is like a thousands words, takes some pictures of the unit, internal and external, any important aspect that needs to be referred to. Do not fear if you do not have access to a digital camera, just send the normal kodak pictures to us with a letter and we can scan them for you and return them.
- Circuit diagrams - if you have access to a drawing software package send the file to me as a jgeg, or eps or pdf etc. If you don`t, draw the circuit clearly on a sheet of plain A4 paper and send it to us via the post and we can scan it for you.
Hope that gives you a general idea, it isn`t as tricky as it sounds.
How will it look? Have a look at this demo, notice the magnifying glass icons, pls click on these to see what happens. Pls note that all review pages will be set to 645 pixels wide so that the format is fixed no matter what size screen area you use and the article can be easily printed off with 2 pages fitting perfectly on one sheet of A4 - we all know it can be tedious reading long passages on your monitor, so why not print it off and read it at your leisure.
File formats - We can deal with most types of files so send them through via this e-mail address submit_review@hificollective.co.uk we will get back to you if we have any enquiries. Pls keep all picture files under 1MB if possible, we have ADSL, but lots of huge attachments can still slow things up.
Once created we will e-mail you the link. This link will appear on the next DIYCLUB newsletter. Reviews like these are the best way of passing your experience on.
