Introduction
|
Welcome to the Audio Note DAC kit 2.1 product page. It has been an exciting challenge to improve on the already established and extremely popular DAC Kit 1.1 but after a long period of research and development we can now proudly bring you the all-new Dac Kit 2.1.
This kit is available in a number of different base configurations and also has numerous upgrade possibilities. All levels now boast dedicated power supplies for both digital and the new analog section. Level B offers Audio Note I/V transformers as standard, there is also a "Signature Digital Board" available as well as all the usual upgrades (Black Gates, Tantalum resistors, Silver cable, etc), and also a USB option.

The DAC kit 2.1 boasts the following:
- Digital and analog sections both have dedicated power supplies.
- Our highly praised M2 power supply is used for the analog section. Featuring 1 x 6X5 rectifier & 1x ECL82 for regulation.
- Dual 6922 (individually heated) analog board.
- No analog filtering (analog filtering has been totally removed).
- I/V transformers to maximize energy transfer in the digital to analog section coupling (standard with Level B).
- USB digital input option.
- Signature digital board available with Audio Note Digital Interface Transformer and Black Gates (standard with Level B).
- Digital board comes ready assembled.
- Highly configurable with a great range of options and upgrades available.
- Before we go on, the DAC Kit 2.1 actually comprise of several different base versions. The most basic version will be referred to as 'Level A', followed by 'Level B' etc.

General Information about the DAC 2.1

AVAILABLE INPUTS - switchable between any two inputs from the following three choices (see pic.4):
- Standard 75-ohm RCA (S/PDIF) - can therefor be driven by the all new Squeeze box
- 110-ohm AES/EBU balanced (XLR)
- USB - requires additional USB add-on board option, the cost is the USB interface pcb is £70.00 + vat, and is supplied built ready for easy install. This can be used with all 3 DAC 2.1 levels. The USB option allows you to use your computer as a transport system to supply the digital signal. The board is powered from the computer (via the USB lead) so installation is simple. The USB board houses a USB to S/PDIF converter, this then gets fired to the DAC board.
The USB interface takes over from one of the standard input options so you can still have either S/PDIF (RCA) or AES/EBU (XLR) as your other input source. You switch between the 2 at will. Please note for all DAC 1.1 customers the USB interface will soon be available. See pic below:

FEATURES:
-
The M2 power supply is taken from the Audio Note finished products line. This uses the AudioNote Trans 0103 Mains transformer/Choke combination with 6X5 for tube rectification and the ECL82 for regulation. This powers a high quality, and specially developed, 6922 SRPP Analog output section.
- Also, as with all the very latest Audio Note DAC's, the DAC Kit 2.1 comes without an analog filter in all its available versions.
- The analog and digital sections each have their own power switch so that you can leave one powered up while the other is off.
SIGNATURE DIGITAL BOARD - available with both Level B configurations:
-
The signature Digital Board includes PK Black Gate capacitors and an Audio Note Digital Interface Transformer (with toroidal core made from very thin laminate spun 80% nickel strip). Digital Interface Transformers are used in all Audio Note's finished product DAC's from their Level 1 range upward.
