This type of winding is used in both the Supreme and the Supreme Silver/Oil capacitors. These unique capacitor is very distinctive, physically and musically. Each capacitor consists of two individual windings that are interwound with each other and connected in series. Loss factor, Smooth = 0.05, Rough = 0.08 Bipolar capacitors are commenly used in crossover networks, where size and cost are sometimes an issue. The bipolar electrolytic capacitors are a cut above the likes of Alcap. Mundorf employs two construction types, "rough" and "smooth". "Rough" and "smooth" refer to the aluminium foil used for the winding of the capacitor. In the rough type the foil is roughened to increase the surface area of the foil. As the capacitance of a capacitor is proportional to the surface area, larger capacitances can be achieved in this way with the same material costs. As the "smooth" type tend to be larger than their "rough" counterpart they have the better performance.
