D-Type Nuts

D-type threaded insert nuts are an alternative to Tee nuts for fitting drive units into speaker cabinets. They are self-screwing (via an allen/hex key) flanged fasteners designed to create strong, permanent metal threads in wood and wood-based materials. Featuring sharp external threads for secure anchorage and a flanged head to prevent over-driving or surface splitting, they are ideal for speaker assembly. Made of zinc alloy (die cast), they are non-magnetic.

To fit, a drill hole is required. The hole diameter depends on the wood's density. If you are unsure, start at the smaller recommended diameter. Once you have made the hole, using an allen key/hex key, slowly turn the D-type nut into position so it sits just below the surface of the wood.
